Adult Education & Literacy Programs

Today more than 250,000 Iowans are without a high school diploma. According to the National Coalition on Literacy, by 2020 two out of three jobs will require a college degree. Closing this gap is a priority for Iowa's Adult Education and Literacy programs, which allow adult learners to develop the skills they need to compete in today's economy and enhance the quality of their lives.

Approximately 24,000 individuals are enrolled in Iowa's adult education funded programs and more than 2,000 will move forward to test and receive their high school equivalency diploma (HSED) in 2015. The Iowa Department of Education would like to see this number increase to 4,000 by the end of 2016.
